Q&A With Kelly Summersett

What do you do?

I'm a Life, Health & Happiness Coach for people and businesses. I'm also a motivational speaker, writer, and podcaster.

What led you to do what you do?

I started as a personal trainer in 2009, spent decades before that doing life all wrong, and then transformed it all. The result? A powerful, real, and relatable style of coaching that up-levels lives, minds, and bodies for good. I coach because it's important to help my clients move beyond what doesn't work, so they get to live without limits!

Why is this topic important to you?

People make weight loss and living a healthy weight hard. Restrictions, the 'all or nothing' mentality, trying hard and willpower are common, yet they don't work, and they're not sustainable. We teach people how to do it the right way by teaching you how your mind works and giving you new tools that make lasting change easy and intuitive.

Could you tell us a little bit more about your personal experience?

I used to have a crazy food addiction and used all the wrong tactics for weight loss, including restrictions, the 'all or nothing' mentality, trying hard and willpower. I would be 'good' for a while and then fall off the wagon. Then, I would beat myself up and do it all over again. It was a stressful and exhausting way to live. Learning how to do food and exercise the right way is one of my proudest accomplishments.

Q&A With Darlene Mew

What do you do?

I am a mental health counselor and an adjunct psychology professor. The therapeutic approach I use is a combination of somatic and attachment focused therapies with years of training in Rapid Resolution Therapy. It is different to typical talk therapy, and I specialize in working with PTSD, anxiety disorders and relational counseling.

What led you to do what you do?

I have always been interested and fascinated by human behavior. Originally, my goal was to specialize in play therapy, but, during my internship, my supervisor exposed me to a different way of thinking about therapy, and I became fascinated by how the brain works when it comes to trauma and anxiety.

Teaching was something that kind of happened to me, but I love being able to teach new ideas to people. My specialty has been cognitive and physiological psychology which has to do with how the brain works. I guess you could call me a brain science nerd. ;)

Why is this topic important to you?

I love seeing people’s lives change as they learn how to harness the power of their minds. It is satisfying to see transformation and joy when someone is free of whatever has held his or her mind captive.
